Something With Orange and the New Black…

As the air gets warmer and the sun shines brighter I’ve noticed I’ve been gravitating towards lighter colors both in my wardrobe, as well as in my make-up stash.

Here’s three of my current faves all in a suspiciously similar shade of pale tangerine. You’ve seen the Sephora blush in Orange Pop, as well as the Clarins Instant Light Lip Perfector in 02 about a million times on here, so no surprises there. What’s new though is Essie’s Resort Fling that a cute little easter bunny (hi mami) snuck into my egg basket.

What’s your favourite color of the moment, and any more spring-y nail polish shades I should add to my collection?

October Favorites

IMG_9647That time has come yet again, folks, the month is over and so a little recap of my favorites is due. October was an eventful month for me: with travels to Estonia and Helsinki, moving places, an exciting decision regarding my nearer future, and testing a couple new products. This month also marked more or less half-time at my current internship and that means it’s only 47 more days until I get to see my family again (yes, I do count the days). With a couple up’s and down’s generally it’s been a very good month and I have discovered quite a few favorite things from the beauty, fashion and lifestyle department which I am sharing with you now.

IMG_9655Essie Midnight Cami
You will have read the review on this this week on here, but in case you missed it – here‘s the link again. This has been on my nails ever since I got it, it lasts a good five days on me before it chips and I really like how it looks dark but has a slight shimmer and depth to it.

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua
I picked this up when I travelled to Tallinn as I had a voucher to be used on the cruise AND everything was duty free. So this was an absolute steal! Recommended by Vivianna Does Makeup (love this girl!) I had to try it out. It’s the perfect lightweight base when you just want a slight coverage without looking like you’re wearing anything.

IMG_9656Naked 3 palette
Normally I am not much of an eye-shadow person but this month I made use of my Naked 3 palette again and really liked putting ‘trick’ all over my lid and defining the my crease with a light sweep of ‘factory’. I quite liked the orange undertones in harmony with my blue eyes, made them pop a bit more on days where I felt especially tired.

Origins Spot Treatment
In the middle of the month I had a really annoying break-out that I think was due to stress. Especially my chin and around the nose little under the skin bumps just kept on coming! After reading Alice‘s post on how she fights break-outs I went and got this little fella. And what can I say, my skin looks all clear again! Will definitely be keeping this on hand whenever my skin is acting up again.

IMG_9661Topshop Slip-Ons
This has actually been a favorite of mine since September. For the past two months I have barely taken off these shoes and they are so comfortable it is ridiculous. I wear them with blue jeans, suit pants and black trousers. I feel like they just go with everything, giving a very relaxed and comfortable yet still super stylish element to each outfit.

IMG_9663Zara Hat
Slowly but surely temperatures are dropping and I notice myself grabbing a hat on my way to work more often. I picked this up in Helsinki where it was even colder than here and for a super reasonable price it definitely is worth it. I only own a grey hat and that doesn’t really go with my camel scarf most days so I am glad to have this addition in my closet.

Project Runway
I’ve watched the entire season but this month the season finale finally aired and I felt so excited for all of the contestants. Shaun has been a favorite of mine ever since the beginning but I would also wear every single item from Amanda’s collection, so for me I was a bit indecisive of who I wanted to win. I’m happy with the judge’s choice though!

SoMo – Ride
Sooo this is quite a sexy song… I really like the Spotify Browse section and when this came up randomly I immediately added it to my playlist. His voice though.

Graphic Posters
When I moved places in the beginning of this month my room felt super sterile and empty. To make it a bit more me I started picking up a few posters here and there and have now successfully turned my room into something that feels a bit more me. (Pictures coming soon!)

Better than Black

IMG_9494You heard me, I said it. I don’t know what’s currently going on with me but I am really (like really) feeling blue. I’m kind of cheating on black, and we all know that hasn’t happened for years! (Fun fact: I bought my first pair of blue jeans this year since… I think 2007? Black trousers just give me life)
After obsessing over blue eyeliner and navy cashmere sweaters I have finally found another outlet to feed my thirst for blue anything. Enter: Essie’s Midnight Cami. I’ve featured Chanel’s Blue Satin on my wish-list but it seems to have been discontinued or limited edition, either way: it’s impossible to track down. And then I saw this in the duty-free section on my way to Helsinki so I just had to pick it up. It’s a really dark navy blue with the tiniest bit of shimmer but far from glitter. It looks super shiny with a topcoat and lasted on me for a full week without chipping too badly. As it looks almost black from afar it still goes with my mostly black wardrobe, but from up close it really gives it more dimension.

Really happy with this purchase and I am currently painting this on for another round of dark blue nails. Who knows, maybe I’ll break out my blue denim as well. ALL BLUE ERRTHING!

I’m curious, what’s your favorite nail color at the moment?

Mani Manual

IMG_8794I’ve mentioned before I like to treat myself to a nice manicure on sundays when I have the time to sit still and let each coat dry without having to do too many things at the same time that mess up what I’ve just painted with absolute precision. Today I thought I’d share with you my little manual on how to get perfectly even and shiny nails.

First off you will have to remove any nail polish you’re sporting at the moment. I just use box standard cotton pads and the cheapest acetone free nail polish remover I could find in the drugstore, this one is from Ebelin, bought at DM. It has a slight almond smell to it which I quite like. In between this and the next step I like to wash my hands with soap to get the smell and nail polish remover off of my hands.

Then I paint on the base coat: I use Essie’s Help Me Grow and so far have no negative points to be remarked. It prevents my nails from staining and I don’t get any ridges on the actual nail. I’m not sure if it actually supports nail growth but it does a good job at preventing the nail from chipping.

Then I like to paint two coats of any nail polish, in this case I’ve decided on Essie’s Licorice, a deep black shade which lasts for.freaking.ever.! No jokes, I’ve had this one for 10 days straight and while it didn’t look perfect in the end it still didn’t look horrible either. Mega impressed with the formula of this one. It goes on smoothly and is completely opaque in two coats. Like I said I’m quite the perfectionist when it comes to painting my nails and really take my time in outlining and filling in the nail. Therefore I usually never have any blobs of polish around the edges, but if that ever does happen I will use a Q-tip soaked in nail polish remover to clean up any messy lines.

When all is set and dry I finish off with a top coat: currently using Essie’s No Chips Ahead. I swear I’m not sponsored by Essie but I just really like their polishes. This one though is just OK in my opinion. I think once I have used this up I will purchase the Seche Vite topcoat that everybody raves about but for now this one will do. It is fairly quick drying and makes the nail varnish underneath shine nicely.

As a finishing touch I like to massage a bit of my favorite hand cream by L’Occitane into my cuticles and hands to provide moisture and make everything look a bit more cared for and accurate.

What is your favorite nail polish brand? Or any shade recommendations by Essie? I’m trying to slowly build a collection and am open for recommendations.

Pamper Rituals

IMG_8323As you know I spent my last weekend camping out at a festival. We had the best time ever, dancing to all our favorite DJ’s, playing drinking games at noon and meeting tons of people from all over the place. Being back from the woods (shower! bed! food!) also means one thing: a good ol’ pampering session to make up for what lacked during the weekend. Obviously the cleaning facilities weren’t exactly in mint condition so I had to make do with what was given. (A post about the beauty items I brought and used (!) is coming your way tomorrow).

Usually sunday serves as my pamper night: getting the face masks out, doing my nails, watching a few episodes of Suits or what have you and then fall asleep in fresh sheets. But no, this called for an emergency session. After a long bath in which I exfoliated with my new Soap & Glory miniature Scrub ‘Em or Leave ‘Em body scrub, I made myself a cuppa Earl Grey which has easily become my favorite kind over the past months. I opted for a cosy bra and applied the Sanctuary Spa 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask which you will have seen in my London Haul. Not much to say about this yet other than it feels warm and lovely, but I’ll report back with a full on review if you like? Also I desperately needed to do my nails, my old polish had been sitting on my nails since before my trip to London! (Good job, Essie!). This time I opted for another Essie shade as they have become my favorite to apply recently. I went for ‘Master Plan’ on my fingers and ‘Meet Me at Sunset’ on my toes. Two coats and you’re good to go! Cuddled up in a blanket I caught up on all my favorite blogs via Bloglovin’ which is just the easiest way to keep everything organized and never miss a post. You can follow my blog here if you like.

What are your essentials to a good pamper night? I shamefully left the Cadbury’s I devoured out of the picture. Oops!
