Guys, autumn is upon us: the days get shorter, temperatures are sinking and the chance of rain on a normal day is rather high. While I’ve already adapted clothing-wise towards the colder days about a month ago, I’m only now beginning to also play around with make-up again. If you read my current favorites post, you’ll know exactly what I’ll be wearing in this look today. A dewy base with bronzed up skin and a nice bronze lid. I somehow forgot to apply anything to my lips, but this look goes well with a deep burgundy or even a bright red. And a nude… Well, it’s a basic look, can we all agree on that?I bought MAC’s Amber Lights last week online and am waiting for it to arrive in the mail, but I have a feeling that that shadow is going to make it into my next month’s favorites. Gotta love a good coppery shade! Do you have any other eyeshadow recommendations that go into the orangey/copper direction and have a little shimmer to them? I’d love to try out a few variations.
What’s your go-to fall look, I’d love to know. Please share in the comments!
Lots of love, Maja
Fast forward to autumn, it’s been a while since my last post! I thought it would be easiest to fill you in piece by piece about what has been going on in these last months and so today I’m sharing my current beauty favorites all with a little story behind it.
The Chanel Lumière d’été is from this years spring collection and probably the most gorgeous piece of make-up that I own. I had never really noticed it in stores, but when I saw it at the aiport on my way to Italy I had to have it. Must’ve been fate that there was only one left! The signature camellia is embossed into the finely milled powder and so far seems pretty sturdy in terms of wear. It’s quite light and not really a highlighting powder as the name suggests, but more of a bronzer for fair skinned people.
The NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer is an Italian purchase, while I was in Florence. I’ve been wanting to find a nice light-weight alternative that gives decent coverage for the summer months when all my other foundations are a bit too light. Little did I know that this summer I’d stay the ghost I am throughout the winter months and the shade ‘Alaska’ is already too dark for me. Oh well, next year we’ll try again with that tanning thing, shall we?
I’ve been back in Amsterdam since the end of August to continue my studies and while perusing the streets with my friend we came across an offer at a store where they at 40% off all mascaras. Since I was in need of a new one anyway, this obviously didn’t leave me thinking. I’ve gone for the waterproof formula of the Le Volume mascara in brown. Couple of things to be noted: my lashes just don’t hold the curl – they’re not short, but seem because by the end of the day they just lie flat. This mascara does everything and more in keeping up the curl and staying in place all day. And big plus: since the weather situation in Amsterdam has been rather rainy, this mascara prevents streaks of dark under my eyes!
One pricey purchase from a while ago was the Parsley Anti Oxidant Serum by Aesop. They’ve quickly become my favorite brand and I’m thinking of doing a brand-focused post in the near future, would you like to read that? I find this to be perfect for the summer months, however will have to combine it with a bit moisturizer from now on, to keep my skin nourished and protected for the colder days.
Lastly, I’ve been all about the coppery-bronzey eyeshadow shades these days and the Maybelline Color Tattoo’s stay in place all day. The one I’ve been using the most is On and On Bronze and goes with everything. I love how it makes my blue eyes stand out even more!
Please let me know what your current favorites are, and what you’ve been up to this summer.
Lots of love, Maja
I’m introducing spring up here on the blog as you might have noticed from my fashion edit, an introduction to my favorite color at the moment and now I’m showing you my current base. I like to keep everything looking super natural, fresh and dewy.
As you might recall from my foundation fails post, I really did not get along with the Rimmel Match Perfection foundation at all, but gave it a second shot about a few weeks ago and have been LOVING it since then. I really don’t know what changed but all of a sudden I really enjoy the light to medium coverage, dewy finish and longevity of this foundation. I like the scent, I like how it doesn’t make my forehead super oily after a long day and I like how it photographs. Ok that’s it – end of rave.
I’ve also really been liking the Instant Age Rewind Concealer by Maybelline lately, the spongey application blends the product super well, and even though it might not be the most hygienic, it really gets the job done. I usually like to apply a little dusting of Rimmel Stay Matte powder just down my T-zone to avoid shininess and then carve out my cheekbones with the Sleek Contour Kit. The Bobbi Brown blusher in Peony you will have seen on this blog about a thousand times but I really like the hint of pink it adds to my cheeks, somehow I feel like that makes my blue eyes pop a bit more?
New to my collection is the Bobbi Brown eyebrow gel that comes with a little wand applicator. I use this in the shade mahogany and let me tell you – this keeps your brows where they’re supposed to be! This is great for setting your brows and coat the single hairs in product, however, if you do have slight irregularities and gaps in your brows you’re gonna wanna use a pencil underneath. After I sadly ran out of my Anastasia Brow Wiz I turned back to my MAC Eyebrow pencil in Fling.
To finish off this natural look, I give my eyelashes about two thin coats of the Maybelline Colossal mascara in dark brown.
What’s your favorite foundation for a light and dewy base? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
As the air gets warmer and the sun shines brighter I’ve noticed I’ve been gravitating towards lighter colors both in my wardrobe, as well as in my make-up stash.
Here’s three of my current faves all in a suspiciously similar shade of pale tangerine. You’ve seen the Sephora blush in Orange Pop, as well as the Clarins Instant Light Lip Perfector in 02 about a million times on here, so no surprises there. What’s new though is Essie’s Resort Fling that a cute little easter bunny (hi mami) snuck into my egg basket.
What’s your favourite color of the moment, and any more spring-y nail polish shades I should add to my collection?
I’ve you’ve been an avid reader of this blog for a while you must’ve noticed I usually take it pretty simple regarding make-up and am not the first in line to experiment with bold colors. However, this past weekend I suddenly felt inspired by the blossoming little greens and flowers everywhere and thought why not use blush as eye shadow (I know, revolutionary thought!) – also: have you read my spring fashion edit already?
I kept my base natural and pretty easy (updated foundation routine coming your way soon!) and got funky on the lids. First of, I applied Nectar from my Lorac Pro 2 palette all over the lids, then went in with my Sephora blush in 17 Orange Pop generously in the crease and blended everything out with my favourite blush Peony by Bobbi Brown. A few coats of my brown Maybelline Colossal mascara and there we have it.
On the lips I tried a Sephora Kiss Me Balm in Soda Pop, a very hydrating and pigmented little lip balm – this one is wandering into my handbag right away.
It’s definitely out there, but I kind of like the finished look much to my surprise. What do you think? Any shades you’ve recently been discovering?
