Who doesn’t appreciate the magic of a good concealer? I think over time this has definitely become one of the most important parts of my make-up routine. Not that I have bad skin, far from that, but I just love how fresh and clear the skin looks with the right amount of concealer applied. I think I’ve found a couple that are really worth their money and wanted to share my findings. Not that these are new or revolutionary but oh well.
First up is Maybelline’s Instant Age Rewind concealer. I have this in the shade 01 – Light and it’s quite the perfect match during warmer months where I have the slightest bit of tan on my face. The sponge isn’t all too hygienic but it does a really good job at blending the product seamlessly. Plus, the twist-up part is actually quite fun! The consistency of this is quite surprising. In the bottle it looks quite heavy and thick but when applied it’s actually quite thin yet has incredible coverage! I would’t use this on blemishes because, again, the application, but for under the eyes this one is the bomb.com!
Next up we have the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NW20. The warm undertones in this cancel out any dark circles or redness and is thus amazing for both concealing under the eyes or spot covering. The consistency is quite thick and almost gloopy and my only real downside to this is the dispenser. I seem to never get it right, one full pump is enough to pretty much cover my entire body and if I pay extra attention to only get a bit product out it is barely enough. I wish they would switch up the packaging, hello there at MAC – you reading?
Can we just take a moment and look at the packaging of the NARS Creamy Concealer? I got the shade Vanilla and this is the perfect shade for all over my face. The consistency is not as thick as the MAC one and not as light as the Maybelline one, but just the right texture. It really feels creamy, as the name states. I have noticed though that I need to powder this one under the eye otherwise it creases. One major plus point (again, apart from the packaging) is that the wand doesn’t pick up too much product and thus there isn’t much product waste (unlike the Collection concealer which I’ll talk about in a second). I haven’t tried this out for too long but it has already become an absolute favorite!
I usually don’t keep the MAC Studio Finish SPF 35 Concealer in NW20 concealer in my beauty bag, but rather have it flying around in my purse. I find this is great to touch up anything throughout the day whenever I’m in the bathroom and doesn’t require too much fuzz. It’s quite good coverage but light in texture and can easily be layered. I wouldn’t use this under my eyes as it’s quite drying but for spots this is perfect. Also with this: a little goes a really long way, I can see myself using this exact pot during the next couple of months without hitting pan.
As my drugstore alternative I’ve been using the Alverde concealer in 02 Porcelain. It’s also quite creamy in consistency and does a fair job at covering up blemishes and dark circles. Out of all the others this is by far the cheapest and certainly a good option if you need medium coverage. It was serving its purpose while it was still wet but it’s gotten pretty dry over the last couple of weeks so I’m gonna have to switch things up. I’m eyeing the Maybelline Fit Me concealer as I’ve heard pretty good things about that.
Lastly another new purchase: the Collection Lasting Perfection concealer in Cool Medium. I heard this is a great drugstore alternative for the MAC concealers and thus far I don’t think it compares to the two MAC ones I have. The consistency is a bit more creamy and thin, even though not runny at all. It does certainly do a good job at covering any unwanted redness and doesn’t dry out my skin too much, the smell however, isn’t exactly pleasant. All in all, for a few euros this holds up against its pricier competitors yet I wouldn’t want to exchange it for any of the other ones either.
All in all, so far I’m pretty pleased with my assortment, even though that Maybelline Fit Me one really does tickle my fancy! My overall winner would probably be the MAC Pro Longwear as the consistency is pretty good, coverage is amazing and a little (if properly dispensed) goes a long way!
I’m curious, what is your favorite concealer of all time? Let me know what you think of the ones I own and which I need to add to the collection.
