August Favorites

IMG_8601This month was quite a busy one: I’ve travelled to London, went to a festival (1 / 2)and then moved to Stockholm. On the favorites front I’ve loved using the combination of the Diorskin Nude BB cream in 002 and the NARS Creamy Concealer in Vanilla. These two product create a perfect light but even skin base. I’ve also rediscovered the MAC eyebrow pencil in fling which is just the perfect shade for my eyebrows. On my lips I’ve been sporting Rimmel’s In Love With Ginger, a bright orange-y red tone which enhances the slightest bit of a tan that I have managed to get. Other than that I haven’t really been loyal to any other product in the beauty department, most of it was on heavy rotation.

IMG_8607A duo that I bought in London are the Soap & Glory Foam Call and the Righteous Body Butter. I usually prefer showering at night and going to bed all cozy and lathered up in body lotion, but with this combo I’ve made an exception and switched my daily shower to the mornings. I’ve noticed I don’t even need perfume when applying the body butter as I notice a lingering sweet smell all day on my skin. If you’re a fan of Miss Dior Chérie you’ll love this, however, if that scent is too sugary for your likings you might want to give this a pass.

IMG_8630On a fashion-y note I’ve been wearing this H&M hat most days – the brim has the perfect width and it kept my hair and face from being rained on (not so much summer in Germany anymore..).

IMG_8637I’ve also gotten back into drinking more tea, especially Earl Grey with a tiny bit of milk. The smell and taste of this instantly relaxes me and gives me a warm, cozy feeling. I’ve especially enjoyed this on those rainy afternoons I just mentioned, cuddled up in a blanket watching YouTube videos or reading Robyn Schneider’s The Beginning of Everything. I haven’t gotten far into this but I’ll keep you updated on how I like it in a bit.

What have you been loving this month?

Cover Me Up, Scotty!

Who doesn’t appreciate the magic of a good concealer? I think over time this has definitely become one of the most important parts of my make-up routine. Not that I have bad skin, far from that, but I just love how fresh and clear the skin looks with the right amount of concealer applied. I think I’ve found a couple that are really worth their money and wanted to share my findings. Not that these are new or revolutionary but oh well.

First up is Maybelline’s Instant Age Rewind concealer. I have this in the shade 01 – Light and it’s quite the perfect match during warmer months where I have the slightest bit of tan on my face. The sponge isn’t all too hygienic but it does a really good job at blending the product seamlessly. Plus, the twist-up part is actually quite fun! The consistency of this is quite surprising. In the bottle it looks quite heavy and thick but when applied it’s actually quite thin yet has incredible coverage! I would’t use this on blemishes because, again, the application, but for under the eyes this one is the!

Next up we have the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer in NW20. The warm undertones in this cancel out any dark circles or redness and is thus amazing for both concealing under the eyes or spot covering. The consistency is quite thick and almost gloopy and my only real downside to this is the dispenser. I seem to never get it right, one full pump is enough to pretty much cover my entire body and if I pay extra attention to only get a bit product out it is barely enough. I wish they would switch up the packaging, hello there at MAC – you reading?

Can we just take a moment and look at the packaging of the NARS Creamy Concealer? I got the shade Vanilla and this is the perfect shade for all over my face. The consistency is not as thick as the MAC one and not as light as the Maybelline one, but just the right texture. It really feels creamy, as the name states. I have noticed though that I need to powder this one under the eye otherwise it creases. One major plus point (again, apart from the packaging) is that the wand doesn’t pick up too much product and thus there isn’t much product waste (unlike the Collection concealer which I’ll talk about in a second). I haven’t tried this out for too long but it has already become an absolute favorite!

I usually don’t keep the MAC Studio Finish SPF 35 Concealer in NW20 concealer in my beauty bag, but rather have it flying around in my purse. I find this is great to touch up anything throughout the day whenever I’m in the bathroom and doesn’t require too much fuzz. It’s quite good coverage but light in texture and can easily be layered. I wouldn’t use this under my eyes as it’s quite drying but for spots this is perfect. Also with this: a little goes a really long way, I can see myself using this exact pot during the next couple of months without hitting pan.

As my drugstore alternative I’ve been using the Alverde concealer in 02 Porcelain. It’s also quite creamy in consistency and does a fair job at covering up blemishes and dark circles. Out of all the others this is by far the cheapest and certainly a good option if you need medium coverage. It was serving its purpose while it was still wet but it’s gotten pretty dry over the last couple of weeks so I’m gonna have to switch things up. I’m eyeing the Maybelline Fit Me concealer as I’ve heard pretty good things about that.

Lastly another new purchase: the Collection Lasting Perfection concealer in Cool Medium. I heard this is a great drugstore alternative for the MAC concealers and thus far I don’t think it compares to the two MAC ones I have. The consistency is a bit more creamy and thin, even though not runny at all. It does certainly do a good job at covering any unwanted redness and doesn’t dry out my skin too much, the smell however, isn’t exactly pleasant. All in all, for a few euros this holds up against its pricier competitors yet I wouldn’t want to exchange it for any of the other ones either.

IMG_8362The swatches are in order: 1 Maybelline / 2 MAC Pro Longwear / 3 NARS / 4 MAC Studio Fix / 5 Alverde / 6 Collection

All in all, so far I’m pretty pleased with my assortment, even though that Maybelline Fit Me one really does tickle my fancy! My overall winner would probably be the MAC Pro Longwear as the consistency is pretty good, coverage is amazing and a little (if properly dispensed) goes a long way!

I’m curious, what is your favorite concealer of all time? Let me know what you think of the ones I own and which I need to add to the collection.

Next chapter: Stockholm

I’ve mentioned it before but now it’s actually time. By the time you’re reading this I will be up in the air headed to Stockholm, Sweden to do an internship for the next couple of months. I have a few posts scheduled for the next week so for now everything should go smoothly over here on the blog, but I’m not sure how the internet situation is in my new apartment. I’ll definitely keep you updated on how I’m doing over here and hope to keep up the regular blogging. However, with a full 40 hour working week I might have to reduce to 3 posts a week – only time will tell I guess.

Also, on a more inspirational note, having moved quite a bit around the globe I can only encourage you to sometimes extend the walls of your comfort zone. There’s so many things out there that will enrich your personality, whether that is friends you meet along the way or just new experiences. Doing something that doesn’t feel easy at first will actually prove your strength and will make you more confident. Whether you fail or succeed, it will teach you something about yourself that you wouldn’t have known prior to trying. Anyway, enough of the rambling. In short: believe in yourself and you’ll be rewarded. Pinky promise.

I wish you all a lovely weekend!

Ciao ciao Aluminum!

IMG_3449So this whole debate around deodorants, or anti-transpirants containing aluminum certainly stirred up some controversy. While probably anybody that read up on the side effects and diseases it may cause agrees to its bad working, however it is so hard to find a replacement that will not turn you into a sweaty Betty after five minutes or prevents body odor.
At first I tried a couple of drugstore options, not even worth mentioning on here. I picked them up primarily because they were free of aluminum salts but also because they smelled really nice and fresh. Well… let me tell you! That nice and fresh smell only lasted about an hour. I’m by no means a really sweaty person and I don’t tend to smell very quickly, but at the end of the day I literally walked around with my arms pressed against my body so nobody would notice!
I then did some research on YouTube and the odd blog, and finally purchased the Soapwalla Deodorant Cream. I had never used a cream deodorant before and so it did take some time to get used to. However, once you’re over the application, it dries really quickly and has a herbal-ly scent to it that doesn’t linger too long. Thank god, because I really didn’t like the scent at first. Let’s just say tea-tree and lavender aren’t exactly my first choice when I want to smell fresh and clean. But like I said, it doesn’t bother me anymore.

The texture is quite funky and feels almost chunky when you first dip your finger into the pot. On the website it’s described as “frosting-like texture” which is pretty accurate if you ask me. The picture picks up quite well on the grainy-ness of the product, however, once blended it goes on really smooth and leaves no bumps or patches.
Watching a few interviews with the producer, Rachel Winard, is really passionate about her product and for good reason, because it works. It has great lasting power and doesn’t harm the skin in doing so. The products are all 100% organic and produced in the United States.
To sum up, whether it is this deodorant you will choose, or any other anti-transpirant that is free of aluminum salts, I strongly advise you to look into the subject and educate yourself a bit about the harm you may do to your body by generously spritzing it with your favorite deodorant. I’m by no means an expert but I think it is a good way to implement a bit more healthy ingredients into my daily routine and rule out one more way to die (uh ohhh dramatic!)

Let me know in the comments whether you have already made the switch or maybe also not intend to? Any other brands that I could try that maybe have a nicer scent to it? I’m curious to hear your opinions!

One Lovely Blog Award

onelovelyblogJust a little heads up, this will be one big Award post including another nomination for the Liebster Award (read my first post here) and the One Lovely Blog Award.

I feel so grateful to all of those who were kind enough to think of my little blog when nominating. I’ve not been blogging seriously for long now but all the positivity and sweet comments I get make me feel really overwhelmed and happy at the same time. It’s great to see how a shared passion for beauty, fashion, and all things lifestyle connects people from all over the world. Through this little page I’ve gotten in touch with so many amazing girls and I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all for reading what I put out in the net and giving me your feedback. It really means a lot!

But now onto the actual content of today’s post. I’ve been nominated for eh One Lovely Blog Award by the lovely MintMilky from A pound of luck,  the gorgeous xolollypop and super sweet Reify from reifylove. Please check out their blogs, it’s evident how much time and effort all of these ladies put into their posts and blogs in general. Go and send them some love! Because I’m combing both awards into one post I would like to split my nominees into two. So I’ll nominate five for each category, but please feel free to do the other one instead in case that tickles your fancy more.

Here goes the rules:
#1 Thank the blogger who nominated you
#2 Display the rules and award logo
#3 List seven facts about yourself
#4 Nominate 5-15 other bloggers to accept the award

A few facts about me:
#1 I love mixing jewelry! Right now I’m wearing gold around my neck, rose gold and silver around my wrists and fingers and a mixture of all three on my ears. Fashion rules exist to be broken in my opinion!

#2 If I was ever stopped on the street by a radio station asking for a music wish it would always, always be Uptown Girl by Westlife. Love a good oldie!

#3 I once saved two rabbits from being sent to the slaughter house and kept them until they died the natural way.

#4 I love designing little booklets and leaflets in Adobe InDesign, right now I’m working on a little city guide about my favorite German city, can you guess which one it is?

#5 My favorite show as a kid was Lizzie McGuire and Out of Sight, a show about a teenage boy who developed a spray that would turn him invisible for a while. Love a bit of chemistry.

#6 A little bit of a heavy one but last winter I developed anxiety issues and every now and then suffer from panic attacks. Not fun!

#7 I’m quite uncomplicated and can adapt to pretty much any situation. Whether that be climbing hills in the mud or listening in on a hard rock concert. As long as the company’s good anything will be great fun!

My nominees are:
Bliss No. 9
Rainbows and Polkadots

I hope you enjoyed these facts and now I’ll also answer the questions posed by the sweet Vittoria Anna for the Liebster Award. Please also have a look over her blog, I’m sure you’ll enjoy her posts as much as I do! First up the rules, then the questions.

#1 Thank the person who nominated you and link their blog
#2 Write 11 facts about yourself
#3 Answer the 11 questions the person who nominated you posed you and create another eleven questions for your nominees to answer
#4 Choose between 5 and 11 blogs with under 1000 followers to nominate and leave a comment on their blog telling them they’ve been nominated. Don’t forget to leave a link to your blog post so they can read about the award!

Here are Vittoria Anna’s questions:

1.Why did you start blogging?
I’ve mentioned this before but mainly because I wanted to be a little more productive during the summer than usually. And of course to improve my writing and photography skills.

2. What is your favourite foundation?
I love L’Oréal’s True Match Foundation, in fact, I’ve even written an entire post about it. Read it here.

3. Where do you buy most of your clothes from?
Probably Zara I would say. But recently I’ve discovered a lot more online stores which I’m quite happy about. Brands such as Twenty8Twelve and Maison Scotch are quite rocking it for me!

4. If you could only have 3 lipsticks, which would they be?
Oh oh, tough one! I’m 100% a lipstick person, but if I had to choose I would go with Mac’s Plumful, a buildable plummy color. Rimmel’s In Love With Ginger, a bright orange, and Kate Moss for Rimmel in 107 a gorgeous deep cherry red. I’m not counting lip glosses or balms here (little sneaky cheat, I know?)

5. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Right now, probably Hong Kong or Shanghai. My best friend has just been to China and I’m super intrigued.

6. What is your favourite colour?
Again, hard one to answer! I love all vibrant bright colors and they change throughout the seasons but right now it’s probably blue.

7. Sweet or savoury food?
Sweet all the way. I have such a sweet tooth it’s not even funny anymore. Trust me when I say that I can finish entire bars of chocolate in one go!

8. Bare or bold makeup?
Another cheat answer: Bare throughout the day and bold at night. I love a good statement lip.

9. Describe your style in 3 words
Comfortable, basic, modern.

10. What is your 1 go-to beauty product?
Concealer! Right now it’s the NARS Creamy Concealer in Vanilla but I’ll always go back to the MAC Pro Longwear concealer. Such a good’s.

11. Describe your signature makeup look
A light to medium foundation (Either True Match or Diorskin BB Cream), some concealer (MAC or NARS), a little bit of contour (Sleek Contour Kit or Bourjois Chocolate Bronzer), Blush (Sephora Orange Pop or Bobbi Brown Pink Peony), a full eyebrow (May eyebrow pencil in Fling or MAC’s Copperplate eyeshadow) and two coats of mascara (Maybelline Colossal Express in brown or MAC’s All Black). On the lips it varies but I’ve been loving my Clarins Instant Lip Perfector to death recently! Especially the shade 06 which I just bought, the perfect nude!

My nominees are:
Blushing Beauty
Attitude and Adventure
Just Like Wonderland
Leila Lina
Sparkle & Champagne

And these are my questions:
1. What’s one thing within the make-up application department that you just cannot ever get right?
2. Your favorite season?
3. What would be your dream job? A company or position
4. The top 3 items you’re lusting after right now?
5. The best advice you’ve ever received?
6. What beauty advice would you give your 15 year old self?
7. Who’s your style icon?
8. Your favorite blog/ YouTube channel/ Instagram account?
9. What is something that should be invented that would make life much easier?
10. What’s the best present you’ve ever received?
11. Your favorite drug store/ high end brand?

Thanks again to all the lovely ladies who nominated me and I’m looking forward to reading all the lovely answers. Again, all nominees may feel free to do either award, whatever you prefer.
